During my assignment at Future Group, one day I asked him spontaneously “ Tell me what I need to do to improve my work, these ads, plans are regular course of work and he replied with utmost ease and clarity “ Have you ever played a Mario Video game in which the guy crosses various stages, fighting obstacles, taking powers & so on, You need that power!
Though I had understood what he meant and it required immediate action, but at the same time I was wondering at his way of looking at Professional Life-Jobs, Office.
What he meant
1.In Mario ( there are 8 levels in the game with each level consisting of 4 stages with increasing level of difficulty) , Job is also like that there are hierarchy the companies we work with responsibities increasing as we go up.
2. In Mario, every level is different with different types of creatures to trouble you, mountains, flying creatures and you have to escape and concur all of them, then only one stage will be completed, similarly at every stage in our career we have different people to deal with, different attitudes, egos and we have to pass all of them to clear that stage/designation.
3. In Mario, you get coins, if you collect 100 you will get one life additional, if you get star, who so ever you collide, he will die, if you get flower, you can throw balls at creatures, they will die, similarly in jobs you get your chances to prove yourself, opportunities, meetings where you showcase your mettle by presenting some new concept, betterment of any existing concept.
4.In Mario, at the end of every level, there is dragon stage, where you have to rescue the queen and at the stage 8.4,queens of queen is caged by dragon, You have to pass through flying fire, and then finally rockets by the dragon and as you escape the dragon by cheating him and pressing the lever, he goes, he goes in the line of fire and queen is yours, similarly we at the end of every stage have to prove ourself by the work we have done at every stage and convince the boss that we have added value to the team.
5. So in nutshell, Mario passes through lot of stages, hurdles, opportunities to get his queen while we also pass through same to get our goal.
What a interesting way to look at the Job, I was thinking aloud that weather Life can be viewed in similar fashion!

Very Interesting, though one cannot shut a mario. Wrong and right get replaced by apt or not so apt. Perception becomes much stronger than reality. Brilliant analogy but then sky is the limit with professional ambitions, would like to believe that a job or the next cannot be the goal or the queen.
Just re-iterating my ex boss surabhi's lines: kitna simple hota na agar log aur cheezen sirf right or wrong words se justify ho paati,and as mentioned by you apt and not so apt :) agree it can not be goal but i was pertaining to daily / weekly/monthly goals or problems in offices and winning them over as stage.
